The Watch House

 East Quay, Mevagissey, Cornwall

If one building had to be chosen to represent the character of Mevagissey, it would have to be The Watch House. This iconic building is perched on the rocks between the inner and outer harbours, and has no doubt featured in almost every photograph and painting of the harbour area. Exploring the house feels like exploring the village itself – the narrow hallway twists and turns, with rooms at several levels; steps drop down to a series of rooms on the lower floor, or you can climb up the stairs to the highest level, the viewpoint, with its stunning views out to sea and over the harbour.

The Watch House has been completely renovated over the last few years without losing any of it's original character, and is decorated throughout with stunning paintings and sculpture. It is available to rent between May and Sept of this year, to people who are looking for something a bit special; somewhere completely unique.......

Detailed Description

The heart of the house is the spacious open plan kitchen/dining room, on the ground floor. The newly renovated kitchen has granite work tops, and is equipped with an electric aga, multi-function microwave, double sink, large fridge and wine cooler. The dining table seats 4 comfortably and the leather sofa at the end of the room make this room, which has views over the inner harbour, a natural place for people to relax and socialize over a meal or just with a good book! Off the kitchen a passageway takes you to the large utility/storage room, with a butlers sink, freezer, washing machine and dryer, and there is also a downstairs loo with basin.

Stairs lead from this floor up to the hallway then up again to the middle floor, where the bedrooms are situated. The large master bedroom, with its super kingsize bed, has views from 2 directions over the inner harbour, and there is a separate dressing room with plenty of storage space. An en-suite bathroom, with electric shower, wc, heated towel rail and basin can be accessed by both the master bedroom and the second bedroom, and this large room is furnished with a double sleigh bed and original wooden floor softened with rugs. Steps rise from this bedroom back to the landing, and the main bathroom off this landing has a bath with a shower off the taps, heated towel rail, wc and basin.

Stairs rise from the hallway up to the top floor – one large light-filled sitting room, the 'watch house' itself, perched on the top of the rocks. This stunning room has a large bay window looking south over the harbour, and double french doors leading out onto a patio, with hardwood table and chairs to enjoy a waterside meal or drink. The sitting room is designed to be comfortable whatever the weather, with a large wood-burner, plenty of books, Tv, dvd and video player, cd player, a large 3 seater sofa plus a leather chair making it suited to enjoying the sun or watching a storm.

The restaurants and village centre shops are just a few minutes stroll away along the quayside, making the Watch House the ideal place to get away from it all while remaining within easy access of Mevagissey's facilities. The property is in a location where guests would be quite content relaxing and spending their stay watching the ever changing seascape. Alternatively, Mevagissey is an ideal base for exploring Cornwall, and both The Last Gardens of Heligan and the Eden Project are close by.

The Watch House has electric heating and storage heaters, and free wi-fi is provided so guests can use the internet. The house is not suitable for babies or young children due to its position and layout, so the minimum age for guests is 12 years. Bedlinen and towels are included, and a parking permit for the Harbour Car Park is provided.
